Try this: Search Google for “best educational practices.”
That search will yield nearly 31. 5 million hits in less than half a second. That’s a tremendous amount of information for any interested practitioner to wade through. Now, narrow the search to “best practices in community colleges.” Surprisingly, that search yields double the results in even less time. What is driving the proliferation of so-called best educational practices? More impor- tant, what is the evidence that supports calling them “best”? And, perhaps the most compelling question, what if our current best practices are not as good as our students and communities— and the nation—need them to be?
